TENDING THE UNRAVELING
Reconnecting in a Time of Collapse
ONE DAY WORKSHOP | APRIL 28, 2019
" It’s walking the razor’s edge of the sacred moment where you don’t know, you can’t count on, and comfort yourself with any sure hope.
All you can know is your allegiance to life and your intention to serve it in this moment that we are given.
In that sense, this radical uncertainty liberates your creativity and courage.
~ Joanna Macy
Economic injustice, societal division, mass species extinction, wildfires, floods, droughts, destruction of wild habitat, even the existential threat of our own demise as a species. Our world is in trouble. How are we to feel? What are we to do? How can we find inspiration and meaning for our lives and our future in these times of rapid change and deep uncertainty? This one day workshop offers an invitation to envision these challenging times as an opportunity to build resilience, cultivate creativity, and explore new vision. Structured around the spiral framework of The Work That Reconnects, developed by Buddhist activist and deep ecologist Joanna Macy, this event also draws from the work of Francis Weller and Michael Meade.
From a foundation of gratitude and beauty we will explore the transformative power of council practice, cross-cultural ritual, storytelling, poetry, and song to honor and transmute the grief we are carrying for the Earth and our global family. We will invite new ways of seeing these difficult times and seek meaningful ways to respond. There are hard things to face in our world today, but our pain is a sign that we are fully alive and connected to the web of life. If we want to be of good use we must be willing to acknowledge and alchemize our fear, sorrow, and outrage into inspiration, strength, and new ways of seeing. Only then can we shine our unique light into the darkness as we collectively navigate this dark night of the soul of humanity.
